General Knowledge
Elves are the stuff of legend. Vicious, magical cannibals who spirit children, the drunk, and the confused away to supernatural realms where they visit torture and degradation on their unfortunate victims. No one has ever seen one, and most believe they don't exist outside of stories to scare children with.
Secret Knowledge
Most within the Delmundo valley are unaware of what follows. This information would not normally be available to starting player characters, and would only be uncovered through play.
Elves are a tall, humanoid, vaguely insectoid race possessed of a hive mind. Each hive has a single female, the queen. The gender of the remaining members of a hive is not clear.
The elven hive mind gives them difficulty with concepts relating to individuality. An elf will use a singular pro-noun to refer to either an entire hive, or any collection of the hive's members. Thus an elf may say "I am currently under attack, in the woods, three miles east of here" meaning that other members of the elf's hive are under attack.
Elven senses are extremely sharp, with both sight and scent far more subtle than any human possesses.
A number of types or species of elf are known.
Green Elves
Tall and slim, these elves may at first glance be mistaken for humans wearing ornate, baroque armour. In fact, the black and gold carapace is integral to their body. Green elf warriors fight with over-sized axes, somewhat similar to a halberd. They claim to be exclusively herbivores, but find human food unpalatable. They will at extreme consume sugar dissolved in water.
The green elves have the largest hives known, containing up to thousands of individuals. Their hive mind is sufficiently powerful that each members knows everything that happens to any other member, even over distances of hundreds of miles.
One hive of green elves has entered into a trade agreement with the Profondita family, supplying elven warriors, metal ore, and access to the Plateau in return for forged metal items.
Yellow Elves
Yellow elves are taller (averaging nearly 9 feet tall) and stronger than the green. They are omnivores, forming small hives, typically of around two dozen individuals. Their warriors are typically armed with a pair of serated, curved swords.
Yellow and green elves are extremely aggresive towards each other. The green justify their attempts to eradicate yellow hives by calling the yellow "killer of young". The green deny this, claiming instead that the yellow are motivated by desire for territory and resources.
Red Elves
The red elves are vicious carnivores. They form hives that approach those of the green elves in size. No red elf has ever been seen, so information about them is based solely on the claims of the yellow elves.
Brown Elves
Little is known of the brown elves, though they have been mentioned by the yellow elves.
Black Elves
Little is known of the black elves. The yellow elves claim that the ancients asked the black elves to create a slave race. The elves manipulated the ancients' own flesh, producing a weaker, shorter-lived, but more numerous race. This slave race became the modern human. So far, there is little evidence to support the yellow elf claims.
