Flashbacks A flashback is a player-initiated scene which occurs "before now". The flashback begins with a lead in, supplied by the player. This is normally of the form "last week in the tavern, when we met such and such" or "I guess you're wondering about the package I've been carrying" or "ah, this was all part of my cunning plan". A lead-in which relies on elements already in the story is cheaper than one which comes out of left-field. The player may also state an intended outcome for the flashback, such as "remember last week in the tavern, we hired those mercenaries who should be arriving about now..." Leaving the outcome entirely unclear (i.e. up to the GM) is cheaper. Once the player and GM have established the lead-in and outcome (and the player has paid the cp), a short scene is played out. This can be as simple as a single test, or a fully role-played scene, at the GM's discretion. Once complete, action returns to "now". Players cannot invoke a flashback, during a flashback. |
