Vet Adventures

I am definitely spending too much of my life at the vets. Last week, Zak was being grumpy and kept rubbing at his mouth. We did have a look, but couldn't see anything. So, off to the vets. The vet found a burst abscess in the root of one front tooth. We'd missed it because it was nowhere near the place he was rubbing - presumably because rubbing the sore bit directly hurt too much.

Today, Zak went back to the vets to have the offending tooth removed. He didn't like being left - when I picked him up he gave me such dirty looks - but apparently was very well behaved for the vets. He's now home, happier to have been fed and had a walk. He's missing a tooth and still a bit sore, but should be feeling much better soon. I need to take him back for a check up next week, then both dogs need their vaccine boosters the following week.

As if four visits to the vets for my own dogs weren't enough, Claire and I also helped rescue a greyhound on Friday. We picked up a beautiful little black girl with (what turned out to be) a dislocated hock, and drove her to the vets. Sounds simple, but that meant us spending three hours in the car... She was a very brave and sweet, and will make someone a wonderful pet when she's recovered.

Hopefully tomorrow will involve nothing more dramatic than a bit of doggy obedience training.

Bonfire Party, Sat 4th November

Probably time to make a formal announcement of our traditional bonfire party. We'll be burning wood and setting off fireworks on Saturday 4th November, at our house. Everyone welcome. We'll probably starting burning things around 7, and set off fireworks at 8-ish. Directions, lifts, crash space, etc. available on request.

Please bring yourselves, friends, and booze, plus food if you really want to. Please DO NOT bring fireworks. We've got two large dogs (and a cat) and want to be careful about what fireworks we set off near them. We'll make sure we've got enough for a decent display. Bringing sparklers would be okay.
